You want to hear all the reason why they don't start the boating season early just mention when you plan on splashing in second week of April. Don't know how many people told about the one time it was crappy in Ohio when they splashed in April.

my boat deals with at least one snow storm a year but then when the weather breaks I’m having a beer and a cigar on the platform watching across the river while the rest of the folks are uncovering and waxing :)

Yeah, It's almost a guarantee we'll have shovel-able snow at least once in early April. After all the work I put into my boat over winter I don't mind her staying pristine, clean and inside for a few more weeks.

I'm more of a first/second week of May kind of guy lately, especially with the $hitty springs we've been having for the last few years. Get her settled in just in time for Memorial Day...

My rack storage marina opens for business April 22nd this year. If the weather is decent I'm sure they'll be pulling some boats out. Mine included because I need to get it over to have the new regulator rectifier installed under warranty. The part didn't show up until the marinas were shut down for the winter. I'm sure it'll be a cold ride across the bay. The Sea Ray won't get wet until mid May I'm thinking.

This has been sixth season living the slip life and I've yet seen a spring that hasn't been this way. The minute my boat is rolled out all clean its going to get crapped on by the elements no matter when I splash. Between Bugs,Birds and then damn Cottonwood trees my boat isn't going to stay clean. In the end I'd rather be sitting in my cockpit on my boat on a cold April day with my little heater running then another weekend at home at this point. Besides just one nice weekend between when I splash early in April and first of May and I'm having lunch at PIB is worth it

What I love about the boat in the spring is getting it cleaned up and launched. Puttering around the marina, and sitting in the warm spring sun with a beer, reconnecting with the marina friends from last fall, is what spring boating is to me.
I also like to salmon and trout fish so I will take the boat out for a few trips, but the surface water in Georgian Bay stays pretty cold until June so its often a chilly affair. But on those calm sunny May days, its really nice to be out there.

Last year I dropped April 1. It was cold, rain, just nasty most of month. my slip is not conducive to hull waxing, so this year it will go in May 1 after a nice cleaning waxing. Not in hurry this year.
Besides, it’s one month less that something going to break.
Starting tomorrow I will be doing a little prep work on zodiac so if we get a good day in April I can boat.

lol good point. Counter theory is April is a good time to go break stuff so I can fix it before the weather breaks

I go in April 1st and while the weather is always a question through the month, I’d rather be in the water than out anytime. There’s always a few nice days when we can get out and enjoy the waters before the crazies are out and I’ll work from the boat a couple days a week.

April 6th splash for me. Can’t wait!

I am currently on a waiting list to get into my preferred marina, but the fishing is already starting off hot, so I may just bite the bullet and drop in April 2nd at my old marina and deal with being a few miles further from the action for one more year.

With my previous boat I would usually get it out of storage March 1st, and try to trailer a weekend or two if the ice was out, before putting it in for the season on April 1st. Latest I ever hauled out was November 17th in an ice storm, that is something I would prefer to not do again. Was one of the last three to leave that year.

Every year I wait as long as I can into November then suddenly I am up all night wondering if my block is gonna crack before my guy can winterize.
No more, mid October end this year. The mechanic will thank me.

My Lake St Clair boating season is basically mid May to Labor day. With the bigger boat may be another week later. I'm on two waiting lists for heated indoor winter storage. I will get on Sassy's once they open up the reservations. I called and was told they won't until the end of June. Kind of odd. Terrible about thinking about winter storage already.

You need to toughen up …. Labor Day should never be the end of boating season
Algonac harbor club for heated storage…. Get on their list right away…. Would take algonac over Sassy any day

to get back to your car at belle maer use safe ride sue…. She is hilarious

As I'm reading this thread I can't help but think of all these examples of why one should own a bridge boat. Our last cruise of the year was the usually the first weekend of December for the lighted boat parade, then New Year's Day was out opening cruise. We didn't have heat in the bridge so we always had to bundle up.

Ya can't beat boating in a snow storm.

I'm a cold weather wuss. I'm on Algonac's waiting list already. I'm also on Belle Maer's too as a last resort.

Wait til you find out what Belle Maer charges…. Most expensive in town at over 9.10 a sq ft, sure it will be more next year. I store indoor there and would like to find something cheaper, especially since they shoehorn you in and make it almost impossible to work on your boat.
