I know right now the boating market is crazy and prices are all over the place. I'm considering purchasing a 2004 Sea Ray 380 sundancer with Cat 3126 diesels...1100 hours. Trying to benchmark what prices were like before the huge spike in used boats so I don't own the most expensive boat on the market. The boat I'm looking at is listed at $150,000. What was this boat selling at prices got inflate?

That is probably a decent price if the condition is good. I looked at one a few years back for around 130K.

I saw on Facebook this morning a 2000 410 in Florida with cosmetic stuff redone and he wanted $299k
It’s definitely what you are you willing to pay market

I get that.. but what i am looking for is what were these boats priced at in a normal market. Prices now on certain models are up 10-30% over the selling prices of that boat over the last few years. Right now you cannot buy, cars, bikes, etc and prices are insane. I am not in a rush to get a boat so I am looking to be sure that I am within a reasonable range so i do not get crushed in 24 months if i decide to sell. When you buy a house you can get comps of what homes sold for. Does that exist in boats?

The 130K for decent shape is where things should be maybe a tad lower depending on engines hours etc.

Comps are tuff to find and only on the internet from yachtworld/boattrader and the like. Recent sales only past 3-4 months would be comps on boats in this market. JMO.

EDIT: was speaking to the 380 gas engines.

THANKAS SO MUCH.. that is the kind of info i am looking for. and from the #s on the market i feel pretty good knowing that boats are about 15-20% overpriced. would be great if this forum had a place like in TrueCar where you can post what you really paid. Of course you are relying on honest people... but if you get enought reporting you can figure out where the market is.

Now keep in mind ~2004 (2003??) they changed the boat look and diesels were available along with a hard top. I think the first year model was a 390 then became the 400 and grew a bit into the 410. Pretty much all the same boat depending on the year. Those boats are more expensive. @fwebster (Frank) would be the one to give you the details on that. He might chime in if you ask him real nice. :)

If you are working with a buyers broker they can supply comps going back at least a couple of years if not more.
Mind you, that pricing data has nothing in it to tell you hours, condition etc.

I saw that too. That has to be a joke. The poster used the term "hook in the water". He'd barely have a hook in the water at $199k. He's on crack.....even more than most sellers right now. Maybe even more than the dude that allegedly put $70k into his LOTO sound system...:)

I bought an '03 380 with Cats back in 2008 for $150k and sold it 4 years later for $140k. Back then a 410DA of the same vintage was not much more. After owning the 380, I'd say look for a 410 if the price difference is still the same (aside from the guy asking $299).

So happy to have found this spot to get my education. Appreciate all the reply posts. I will throw some boats here I'm looking at hoping this forum can give me guidance.

On my dock, there are three 380's and now three 400/410's. Every 380 owner has said they wish they would have bought the 400/410 and all would have preferred diesels. 380's are great boats but the extra bathroom and other features are awesome. I helped a friend buy an 01' 410 in January and he paid $129k, he could get $150k quickly today if that helps, and this is a pristine freshwater diesel 410 with expensive upgrades.

This made me smile, 15 years ago I was focused on the 400/410, then expanded my search into the 450 and bought one... I have not regretted going bigger once !!!

I'll beat that 299k guy, my 410 is available for the low price of 289k! :) Hell, I'll ship it to you for that price!
