Exxon Profits

Instead of trying to whine and get the government to limit what companies can make, go build your own company and make all the money you want... no one is stopping you.

Well said, and thus why I am in this camp.

I can understand why people are upset, and when you look at gas prices and then see a profit of $x, it looks like we are taken advantage of. However, the fact of the matter is they are operating as I would expect a business to.

For a minute, I thought Source Code was back, or maybe one of his compatriots or comrades, or whatever was here. I like Gary's idea. Think I'll move to North Dakota and drill for oil. Do you think I need the 19.2 volt cordless drill or is an 18 volt one good enough?

Best regards,
Frank C

Frank, I think you should go to Dewalts 'Big Gun' model.

Frank, maybe you could adapt the buffer from your boat cleaning kit. Take your boat, live on it, and 'drill' for oil while on the hook. In fact, maybe you could use your anchor to dig for oil. Kinda like Jed Clampett.

I also have to wonder if there were rain forests and a hot climate up at the north pole during the Jurassic period, aren't we just trying to put the Earth back the way it was?

That is the mentality in Garden City SC on dredging the inlet side of the ocean front. It's like pulling teeth to even get the local gov to entertain the idea of restoring/dredging the "bay" side. They always say they want to keep it natural, I tell them natural was water at the dock in the back yard. Dredging would restore that. Hurricane Hugo, yes Hugo 1989 vintage still has alot of homes silted in and "they" won't allow dredging to restore.

Hopper,
You've got my curiousity. Are you saying that nuke power is cheaper than we think or more expensive? I'm all for nukes. I live 15 miles from 3 Mile Island. Unfortunately, it is not my electric company that owns it. they have recently deregulated the electric power industry and my state is going to get whacked with a 30-40% increase in 09. I have a place in Md also and we got hit down there last year. My electric bill in MD, for weekends only is almost as much as my full-time bill in Pa. My house is total electric and they are warning us that within 2 years our rates will double. Build more nukes!!

Quote "Build more Nukes" Well then...Refine more gas!! Ok, I'm sorry, but that is the point I was trying to make earlier. I know Gary, capitalism. supply and demand yada yada yada. I don't think that's apples to apples.

I'm saying it's more exepnsive. Why do you think it's been so hard to implement deregulation. The hit you are taking is part of the subsidized budget I was talking about. California tried it and everyone knows the results. The question I always ask is do you really want Nuclear power generation privatized? That's a generalized statement. What I mean is if we allow the "budget" to dictate how we prioritize manitenance is that a good thing? Considering the "potential" for disaster.

For the record, I am -PRO- Nuclear energy. It's the cleanest and generally the safest form of power generation, and I live 9 miles from one, and work there all day long. LOL.

I just think it's a good thing there is a watch dog keeping us in line! They are called the NRC Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Wano-World Association of Nuclear Operations, keeps the rest of the world in check, Chernobal was the reason for it's devolopment. Good old Russia didn't say a thing to it's neighboring countries that they had a problem and the only reason they figured it out was because of the ARMs (area radiation monitors) started to alarm. Then questions started being asked. Then Russia came clean. Great Neighbors huh.
Anyways, sorry to jump on the soap box, I get passionate about some things.

We have 2 nuclear plants in Texas that are private! We deregulated in 1999 and now pay some of the highest rates in the country. Deregulation in Texas was about TXU and HL&P (now Reliant) reducing their property taxes by ~$7 billion of asset value. I know because I was the one doing the fair market values.

I am a consultant primarily in the refining business and Exxon's profits were sooooo good that the day they annouced them, their stock went down! Big Oil deals in big dollars and you always have to put things in perpsective. Also, I would use the big drill bit in the Dakotas since thinks are little deeper up there.

Texas as I understand it is basically a country of it's own. It just happens to be geographically located in the U.S. LOL Plus everything is bigger in Texas!
