Extra Battery Required ?

As previously posted, i have just purchased a searay 215ec with only 200 hours and i must admit i am on cloud nine with my purchase. The first thing you feel when boarding is the build quality, its truely second to none, my boat is 1999 and everything from the seats, gelcoat, and overall conditions screams quality. The handleing and drive is very impressive and you feel very safe in the knowledge that this boat feels really well put together, with the mercruiser 5.0 it sometimes feels a little under powered but with everthing else i can live with this quiet easly. Anyway heres my tester for all you experienced boaters on the net, i bought a 19" tv/dvd combi so the kid wont get bored and i also bought one of those inverter things that increase the power from 12 volts to 240. Everything works fine but my only concern is the fact i only have one battery on board and dont want up floating around off the coast of ireland with a flat battery. i could buy one of those booster packs and keep it on board, or get a second battery and install it beside the battery and connect them together. Would that help, i have seen dual switches on other boats that can alternate from one batt to the other but i thinks theres alot of extra work installing them. anyway sorry for such a long thread but i have just become addicted to boating and love the idea of being able to post and recieve so much valued information direct.

I would add the second battery and the switch. It will give you piece of mind should something happen to the primary battery. It's a whole lot easier than getting to the engine compartment and then connecting the booster pack to start it. It's not that hard to add the battery switch and is almost expected on boats nowadays! It's a nice easy do it yourself project. Just make sure to measure the runs and use the appropriate gauge wire to to the switch and back to each battery.

The second battery and switch is the way to go.
