We are planning to move this Spring and it's looking like we may not launch our boat this year, as preperations for sale, the selling process itself (we're listing the home ourselves - which means open houses on the weekends), the move, and getting setteled in the new house will not leave us much time for boating. Plus, we're not sure exactly which city in the area we'll 'land' in depending on the house we settle on and which marina we may choose to slip in.

I normally wouldn't worry about things this early, but the slip dues for our current marina come due this week, so it's decision time... My though process is that if I store it, it will cost me $324 for the season, if I decide to launch it, it will cost me $3,000+ for the season(slip fees, winterization, fuel, etc.). It's hard to justify spending that kind of money.

I have a few questions about extended storage on our boat. Other than what's been done to our boat for winter storage, will I/should I perform any maintenance on the boat in the Spring/Summer/Fall of 2010 (wash/wax, etc.), or will it be good to go until the spring of 2011? Any special maintenance we should do before launching?

The boat has been drained of all water, and the engine and water system (fresh) have been filled with antifreeze. The engine oil, oil filter, and fuel filter have been changed, and the drive has been removed and stored in a heated bay (we need the drive shift cable replaced due to a bad o-ring) for the winter. The boat has had the bottom pressure-washed clean, the bottom paint's in great shape, and the boat is shrink-wraped. It currently is blocked at the boat yard.

It sounds GTG as you are. Did you use pink or automotive anti-freeze in the enging block? If you used the pink - you might want to reconsider automotive grade for better corrosion protection. Is the battery removed? - extended storage will allow the battery to self-discharge and may damage it in the long run. Also add decon to keep the shelter-seeking little critters at bay!

They used the pink stuff (I'm %99 sure of it - but, I'll have to confirm). If they indeed used pink, then should I have them flush/change it and re-fog before next winter?

The batteries are not removed. They are still in the boat, but disconnected. I'm sure I can remove those in the spring as I'm going to have them put an access zipper in the shrink for me (they have to still finish the drive shift cable).
