Has anyone used Clear Wireless (www.clear.com) to set up a mobile Wi-Fi network on their boat? The only Wi-Fi I can pick-up in our harbor is intermittent and painfully slow. I work from our boat on occasion and would also like to stream music via the internet.

Just curious if anyone has tried Clear Wireless - sounds like it could be a good solution.

Thanks in advance.

I have a sprint 4g card, which operates on the same wimax network. So far I have been less than impressed. Here in Las Vegas I've only managed to get 1 bar of signal and the speed was about half that of 3G in the same spot. In Chicago I've been able to pick up a pretty decent signal but the 3G service still beat it in a speed test.

If you decide to go for it I would make sure you get a 30 day trial so if you are not happy with it you can get out of your contract.

I have a 3G Iphone that can act like a wireless access point. The service is ok up to a few miles out in Lake Michigan from the West Side of Michigan. AT&T service.

I have Clearwire at home and I'm not all that impressed. It takes a long time to load new screens...faster than the old dial up connections but certainly not fast, and there have been times in the evening when I could not establish the connection. That being said, I'm across the river from the closest Clearwire antenna so the distance may be a factor.

Have you considered regular broadband cards from Verizon, Sprint, At&T, etc? I use Verizon and it does what I need. I don't strem music or movies, although I think music shouldn't be an issue. You just need to consider that they have some data transfer monitors and may charge you if you exceed the base limits. I never had this issue, but it's something to keep in mind.
