I know there have been many of these exhaust flappers lost through searching this site. Has anyone been able to source a replacement exhaust flapper recently? My SR dealer says OEM changed design and flapper only is not available....need to buy entire exhaust assembly at $150 ish. I am hoping someone has a source. Thanks.

I have replaced 2 of mine. Paid about $11 each. It is the OEM that sea ray uses. They are out of Florida, I will try to look the Manufacture up and repost. I was told I had to buy the entire assembly too.

part number is m7-17-9295770(Diesel), SouthCOMarine Phone number 321-638-4990, I spoke with Dan. Really helpfull I gave him the SR thru hull number and he was able to get just the Insert and flapper.

Thanks, I'll give them a try.

UglyFish is where I got mine as well. They are the only distributor Southco gave me that would sell to an individual.

I have been wanting to replace my long lost flappers for some time and had no luck. On Sum Escapes and jason78's recomendation I ordered some today from Ugly Fish. Fantastic customer service and he had them in stock. Thanks for the info. I have noticed at our marina that most of the Sea Rays have lost their flappers. Any idea why? Did you guys glue the inserts in or do they just wedge tightly? Thanks for the help.

Glad they were able to help you. The reason they come out is that it is a bad design. Over time the rubber hardens and shrinks then one day when the engine starts, plop, it's gone. I did not use any kind glue. When I put it in, I felt a subtle snap-in type feeling then it stopped. My first one lasted 6 years so I will just plan on replacing when it goes again. $12 every 5 years is not bad.

The smaller one for the generator 2" was not available as a replacement part so I had to get Ugly Fish to contact Southco about making some for him. The 3" used on the engine exhaust for the inboard boats was a regular replacement part offered by Southco. He said he was ordering quite a few of the 2" so he would have stock. As far as I could tell he is the only one who can get them, at least in the US.

From my observations, Sea Ray started using these in 2005 on cruisers. Earlier boats tend to have plastic or intrgrated thru-hulls. Many people that are missing them probably don't even realize it.

Thanks for the info Jason. I don't even know if they really protect anything, but they do look good.

Travis 340,
I did epoxy my replacement in. I did that on the port side and the genny four years ago and it is still solidly in place.
Second, if you have ever seen some of the insurance claims from musk rat damage you will understand why I think they are important....they do keep critters from crawling up the exhaust and doing damage.

What did you use to epoxy them in with? I received mine the other day and I think you were wise to stick them in there with something.

Thanks,

I just went to the local hardware store and explained the need and used the recommended two part epoxy. I don't recall the brand or type. Comes in a double tube configuration so you spread it on a mixing board, mix for a few seconds and then apply. Simple and quick repair. Good luck with yours!

Which part do you glue? I thought that the flipper is just an O-shape with small wings that snap in to place. Is there some kind an O-ring or something? I'm going to order some too, but I was wondering what should be glued.

Alex F,

I just put a bead of epoxy around the inside of the exhaust thru hull and pushed in the flapper. It just didn't seem secure to me without the added security of the epoxy. I also spread a bead of epoxy along the end of the flapper insert after it was in place. Sort of like a bead of caulking between the exhaust thru hull nad the insert to give it a nice smooth finished look. Been in place for four seasons with no issues since doing this. Good luck.

Great, thanks. Once I get the new flippers I'll see much better what you mean.
