If you are having issues with your ZF Transmission in the NJ area call AUTHORITY MARINE 732-291-0012 and talk to Rob or Scott. It started as an intermittent problem and I luckily avoided a really bad situation when I lost forward on my 44 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge while trying to dock my boat in my slip. The next morning the problem disappeared so I knew diagnosing it would be tough. I called on Monday, they were at my boat Wednesday and they resolved the problem same day! These are the guys! The shift controls are electric, not mechanical. There is a forward and reverse shift solenoid and coil on each engine that actuates a valve that does the shifting. As it turns out the connector to the solenoid was going bad. As it heated up from resistance, it would not shift the port motor into forward. It took a while to diagnose because it only happened when the connector got hot, but Rob figured it out! He had to disconnect the shaft (all done while boat was in the water) and let the port trans spin in forward gear for a while to identify the problem.
