Well as long as everyone gets one, when do I get mine?

And the last batter always got to hit a "home run." But here's the dirty little secret, the kids kept score.Congrats to you and your granddaughter.
I coached 8 year old T-Ball once. They did not keep score, and everyone got a trophy in the end. I did not come back the next year to coach as I found it ridiculous.
So did the parents….. well I did anyway …. Because my kids would ask who won in the car on the way homeAnd the last batter always got to hit a "home run." But here's the dirty little secret, the kids kept score.
My wife coached boys little league and girls softball for years. My daughter was head coach middle school boys and girls swimming and now assistant high school coach....parents can be a pain in the ass.So did the parents….. well I did anyway …. Haha, exactly, the sports oriented ones did, and they would tell me the score and say "We won Coach Greg!"And the last batter always got to hit a "home run." But here's the dirty little secret, the kids kept score.
No I am unaware of that swim. That has to be a cold one, even in the dead heat of Summer.Ollie, are you familiar with the Point to La Pointe swim, Bayfield to Madeline Island? They'll cancel or postpone the race when the waves exceed 3 feet. My oldest granddaughter swam that once, is was a little rough, but she did ok placing 57th amongst all swimmers, there were about 500 that year. We were in the boat along the course, thought we'd be able to track her as she swam but it wasn't possible, all you saw were some heads amongst the waves and some arms in the air.
The Park Service boat was near me, they spotted a speed boat come from the end of Madeline toward the race course. That little Park Service boat is pretty fast too, they shot across, got ahead of the speed boat, turned and started running straight at it. The speed boat didn't understand they were coming for them, Park Service just kept running direct at the other boat matching their changes in course, finally the speed boat yanked the throttle back and came to halt, apparently they weren't aware of the swim.
This I know but not in football. Both my sons went to the same small Catholic co-ed high school. The oldest played football. I always found the issue with the football refs was the game was faster than they are. Soccer was my big problem, where my youngest started all 4 years. The last 3, he was the best player on the team. One game he was constantly taking cheap shots without fouls getting called. They were playing a much bigger higher ranked school and winning on the strength of my son's 2 goals. I may have raised my voice and mentioned the cheap shots loud enough for the refs to hear. At the next stoppage the center ref pulled my son aside and told him he was the best player on the field and he needed to expect to get fouled. Ref actually said he couldn't call every one cause the other coach would give him a bad grade. IIRC my son's response was "F*ck that" (not his greatest moment, but he was understandably frustrated). Got a yellow card for that one.HS sports are so political its disgusting.
I'll just say we learned this first hand when my son was suspended from football for being involved in an in-game sideline brawl. Consequences were needed, but the school changed the terms of punishment at the last second, without notice, because "it was a bad look for the school". Meanwhile other players suspended at the same time had minimal punishment and could still participate in team events. The uneven application of justice and backstabbing severely eroded my son's trust in the school and his coaches.
The favoritism by refs can be appalling, too. In my son's last game of the year an opposing player threw a roundhouse to one of our player's groin. He collapsed. Miraculously none of the 5 refs saw anything. I was in the bleachers and saw it clear as day.
I kind of sort of get this having watch athletes like Jordan get their asses kicked and fouls were not called. The Team did OK, they were expected to place 6th after the Sectionals but ended up taking 5th at State. The Team has had a nice run in recent years, starting in 2019, 5th, 1st, 2nd, and this year 5th. Prior to 2019 they hadn't been in the top five since 1995.Woody, how did they do at state?
Congratulations, Woody. All that time swimming off your boat obviously paid off. That is a huge accomplishment.Just an update and a little more bragging...My granddaughters HS senior year swimming is over. She was chosen Conference swimmer of the year this year. The team finished the season as Conference Champs, won Sectionals, and D2 State Championship.
My granddaughter has committed to UCLA and her teammate to Liberty University.
