Hey all, does anyone know or have a best guess of what it would cost to run a 480DB from Ft Lauderdale to the CT river? Thinking of purchasing a Sea Ray there and would like to be able to factor in costs to move the boat to the northeast. BTW, I like reading the forums for both ideas as well as learning stuff about the different Sea Rays... Thanks again.

I've looked at moving a 52DB (very similar boat) from Miami to Long Island. Some of the cost depends on whether you plan to run straight days or spend some time in transient ports, but of course the biggest cost is fuel. To my home port I've figured 70 hours of running time at 50gph. At $4/gallon fuel alone is $14,000. If you need a captain add in $350/day. Transient dockage is another $150-200/night. Add in your flight + crew flight to Ft. Lauderdale and Captain's flight and expenses to or from Ft. Lauderdale and you've got your approximate costs. I've just rounded it all to $20,000 as I've contemplated such a move. Of course, for me, all of this is an academic exercise until I sell my 44DB.

If you go slow like I do I burn 1 US gallon a knot so $5 a knot. Taking boat up yourself you will find out how it runs and what needs fixing. When we bought our boat in Seattle we drove it up ourselves only 150 knots so you are a little different.
Longest trip we have ever done is 1100 knots. After the third fill up stopped thinking about how much fuel we were using. It was 2008 when fuel was $1.65 a liter or $6.50 a US gallon.
If it is the boat you want and the price is right itcould be a fun vacation if you have the time.

We used to cruise at 24 knots in our 28 footer. One was always looking for things to miss in the water. We have a lot of logs on the west coast. Some natural most escaped it seems. When we worked we drove the SeaRay at 12 to 18 knots. Made big waves and burnt lots of fuel. When you only have a week or so vacation and want to go 200 Knots going slow is not an option. Now we do not work and slow is OK difficult to get used to but we set 50 miles a day as a minimum and it works well. If weather gets bad we go fast. You see a lot more going slow and you see logs a long time in advance. Plus when you eat and drink coffee at 6 knots you do not spill anything.

I did this trip 3 years ago except it was from Ft. Myers to Long Island. Distance should be about the same. I have info on distance, stop overs, and competitive fuel prices should you strike a deal on the 480DB... Good luck........

Don't forget all the extras...addl insurance riders, paper & electronic charts, ditch bags, spares, etc. Definitely don't skimp on the spares.

You may want to put in your offer the owner will spend a day on the boat with you showing you how every thing works and then go for a cruise with him to let him show you how the boat runs and how best to run it. At that point you will have a better idea what you need for spare parts.
