My kohler 5ECD is shutting down and showing error code EC69. It will restart if reset and run for 15 to 20 minutes (varies) and shut down again. The manual says O2 switching fault, and I have been waiting for the kohler dealer to get back to me for at least 2 weeks now. Dealer says they are waiting for kohler tech support to advise. Has anyone seen this error code and been successful in resolving it. Grateful for some direction or advice.

I have never had that code. All I found is what you already know in the manual - code 69 = oxygen sensor fault. If it is anything like some cars I have had in the past, it should run with a faulty oxygen sensor but it will not do so at its most efficient. In my car the solution was to replace the oxygen sensor.

oops I reread that yours will shut down after 15minutes so it is obviously not behaving like my car engine.

Yes. Same here.

Got a local servicing dealer out. The first thing he did was replace the CO sensor module. This irritates the hell out of me that there is a part in this unit that you have to replace every two years (because it is simply a battery on a circuit board). By the way, to get to it is a major operation.

After the CO module replacement, EC69. So, on the next visit he replaces the O2 sensor on the exhaust system. Same thing. So, about a month goes by and I replace the plugs. It now runs great, but only on manual start. I shut the engine compartment button up the canvas and declare victory. I now try to start from inside the cabin, it runs for about 2 seconds and shuts down. I was so disgusted I went home.

I'm going back today to "look at it" and see if something jumps out at me. I'm hoping it healed itself....

Check and see if the auxillary input is the cause. This is where the boats CO sensors are networked to the gen set. If a CO alarms the gen set shuts down. An error code is displayed....see your manual for the details.

Surely I know how it feels to be disgusted with it. Still no response from the dealer. I will chase them down again today. I get the impression they do not have the answer.

Same here. On Saturday, I went back, started it again, it ran for 15 minutes then shut down with the EC69 Code again. Being that this is the O2 sensor fault and I have replaced the O2 sensor, it has to be something else. No issues with CO2 and the aux input. Not sure what else that can be replaced at this point except the ECM itself.

So what ended up being the issue? Was it spark plugs or something else? Thank you in advance - just got the error code yesterday - I was thinking the generator was running a little rough under load. Then it shut down with EC69 error code. Thanks for the help!

I changed the circuit board that has a small battery on it inside the controller. The EC69 code went away and was promptly replaced by a LOC code which I could not resolve, despite changing all sensors and parts on the raw water side and cleaning the heat exchanger. The unit was pumping well allthis time, lots of water.

I got really fustrated and replaced the unit with a nextgen 5.5 diesel unit. The unit is ignition protected and similar in weight to the kohler. I installed a 12 gal diesel tank aft of the starbaord fuel tank.

Happ since
