Error code 71. Come on!!!!!

Engine died. 2014 260 sun deck. First time 3 days ago, I jumped off the front, grabbed the ladder and swam it 500 feet to Marine Max where I bought it. They said gear lube is low. Uhhh, not the problem b/c today AFTER having it on the water for a couple hrs. on the way back, while in a No wake zone, it went back into Guardian mode AGAIN and then shut off a minute later. Got an Error code this time, it says ENGINE MISFIRE 71 on a Mercruiser 5.0 I/O. IS THIS COVERED BY warranty? Meantime, any thoughts as to what's going on? Thank you,Scott

Could be several things - simplest of them is a weak battery.

That's interesting. In a car the alternator keeps a weak battery from shutting off, but on a boat you're saying a weak battery could cause the boat to shut off?

Absolutely. Friends brand new Monterey 320SS kept dying on the water. Battery was the culprit. Not saying this is your issue, but a possibility.
Misfire can also be cam sensor, crank sensor, bad plugs, bad wires, bad ignition component, plus others.
Really need to hook up to diagnostics and try to capture it, or hook up and read the captured codes.
