Folks

I have a question...my engine will not start consistanly when you turn the key. What happen sometimes is the engine will turn over and when you release the key to try again, you will get no click and the emergency start will not even energize. We thought is might be the key switch but someone sugested the slave relay. Does anyone know what and where this relay might be?
The engine will start if you do the screwdriver trick accross the starter solenoid and the starter is only 3 months old so I am guessing that is out. Batteries are good as well.
Any ideas???

You have the classic symptom of a bad slave solenoid. This is a common electrical failure after a boat gets a few years old, so go ahead and buy 2 and change them both while you are at it.

The slave solenoid is located right next to the master circuit brreaker on the engine itself. As you look at the engine it should be on the top left side of theengine just in front of the exhaust manifold. There is a fiber cover that you will need to remove to access the solenoid. Its got 4 wires going to it so remember which ones go where. The cost is about $16 ea. and are relatively cheap for OEM parts.
