My 1997 SD 330 has Merc 454s-no genny and does not carry a lot of extra weight. I just had the impellers replaced. The engine temp on both engines is still 175 degrees after warm-up and running at 3300 rpm. They have about 400 hours on them. That seems hot to me. Should I be concerned?

Nope. Normal. Be concerned if you see the temp creep up over that number as you increase load and/or speed. These engines are designed to run at 170-180 degrees F. If you're concerned pick up a cheap-o laser temp gun an shoot some readings while running. Elbows should be warm but not scalding to the touch all the time - they'll get hotter once you shut down so don't check their temps while not running.

I'm consistently one needle width warmer than the 170 mark.

You're fine as Ron said, as long as it's consistent.

Todd, do you have closed cooling on your tub?
