Hello to All,
Being a newbie to the site forgive my "newbieness" and lack of correct jargon :smt100
Two weeks ago we moved up to a 2001 Sea Ray 400 SB with Cummins 430's and have an issue with the engine synchronizer and throttle.
1. The Starboard (Slave) Throttle does not reach maximum throttle. It reaches the maximum throttle position which does not correspond to its true maximum RPM. The Port throttle has no problem reaching maximum position and RPM.
2. When engaging the Engine Synchronizer the master takes over and the Starboard Throttle control is disabled however the Starboard engine does not repsond and stays at idle.
This occurred this last weekend and my remedy was to shut down the engines and crawl into the engine compartment. I noticed that the limit switch on the top of the controller was enaged which would disable the slave throttle (as it is designed to do). I jiggled the collar and it moved off the swtich. This resulted in regaining control of the Starboard Throttle and we were able to navigate home.
I suspect that the two issues are related and that teh remedy is to adjust the throttle cable so that the throttle can be moved to maximum rather than max out below. Since the cable is not moving to its maximum the Sync will not work properly adn will not disengage in the normal way.
Am I on target with this or way in shallow waters?? :smt021
Has anybody had this problem? Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to proceed? Are there any reference materials available, diagrams, procedures etc...? Point me in the right direction.
Thank you for any and all suggestions,
