Engine Serial Number Location

Not familiar with Mercruisers and American engines. Not sure if I found the serial number. Need it to register my '09 Sundancer. On the ECU found 2 numbers, both start with 8M followed by 7 numbers. Is the first one the engine and the other the outdrive? Thanks

No, those are serial numbers for the individual components you have. I take it your purchase paperwork didn't have that listed? The first, and easiest, place is on the flame arrestor cover - right on top of the engine. If that's worn off, there is a small, metal plate affixed to the edge of the flywheel housing - starboard side, above the starter. Also, it may be possible to find it by using your HIN at a Sea Ray dealership - or by using the drive or transom serial number (on the drive/transom) at a Merc dealer.

Your info was great, I found all the numbers on the arrestor. The boat has only 225 hrs., the engine bay is real clean.
That's probably why the numbers are there. I spent too much time on Euro cars I guess.......Thanks again Bob
