Hi all,
Any idea what might cause the rpm meter to get out of whack? We were on the lake on Sunday, getting to our usual anchorage just fine - boat ran like a charm and rpm indication as usual (and were it should be). At the end of the day I fired up the boat and slowly cruised out of the 5mph zone - again "as usual". Then, when I throttled up to get on plane, I heard a noise from the engine that sounded like a slipping belt (7.4L EFI, BR III outdrive). She got on plane just fine, nothing else besides the slipping belt noise out of the ordinary. When we hit our usual crusing speed of just of 30 mph the belt noise had disappeared, but now I noticed that my rpm gage said the engine was turning at 6,800 rpm. That obviously not being the case (it sounded calm and normal), I cruised another mile back to the ramp and proceeded to pull the boat. I haven't checked for a loose belt or anything else yet, as we were pressed for time that evening. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong would be much appreciated!
