I have a 1987 sundancer 340 with twin 454's and vee-drives. I bought to rebuilt long blocks and am looking to swap out the engines. Do I need to disconnect the transmission prior to pulling the engine, or disconnect the transmission after pulling both from the boat?:smt100

You can block up the transmissions and remove the motors if you have enough room aft of the motors to move them back before you need to pull them up. While the motors are out you might want to think about replacing the shaft seals since you will have the access.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this will be done in the water, so the seals will have to wait.

Done in the water, Thats sounds ballsy to me. I wouldn't want any chance of my boat going to the bottom because of something leaking back, and I might get seasick while thrashing around. Mine has straight drive and I'm pretty sure I could block the trannys up without a problem, but I may have to remove the radar arch for better crane/lift access. Let me know how it goes, I've wondered how tough it really it. When I pulled the motor out of my little 20' bowrider on the trailer it wasn't too hard. Just watch out for the swinging block!
