Port engine not starting
1993 -33 ft Sundancer w/ twin 454cu. No gas going to carburator. Replaced fuel pump, checked solenoid to fuel filter, changed fuel filter, isolated fuel to port engine from starboard tank. The fuel pump is attached to the water pump, I was thinking if the water pump that actuates the fuel pump could be the problem . Let me know your ideas.

What exactly do you mean when you say the fuel pump is attached to the water pump? This just doesn't sound right to me.

Are you saying:

Symptom)... not moving any fuel through fuel pump.

1)... replaced FP.
3)... switched FP feed lines from tank port/starboard

results)... still no fuel moving through fuel pump

I'm sure there is more to this story. For example, was there fuel in the line when you changed the fuel pump? If there was, I would test the fuel pump to see it is actually pumping fuel. If the carb float is stuck in the closed position, it may look like a fuel delivery problem but it really is a carb issue.

If it isn't pumping fuel, you need to start at the fuel tank and work your way to the engine. I use an outboard fuel priming bulb to test for restriction at the fuel tank and fuel filter.

For the record, most mechanical fuel pumps run off the engine cam or the raw water pump on 454s. I presume that the latter is what you have.

You need to be very, very careful in testing the fuel pump on the engine. I have seen a lot of boats that have caught fire because of fuel related issues. The safest way is to put a fuel gauge on it and see if you have pressure at the carb when the engine is cranking.
