Engine Hydro-locked! What???

Thanks for the comment, and yes time will tell if all is good. I'll take the win for now but definately will watch the engine's vitals for the near future. VVM is great for this!

I only believe on cylinder #6 had enough water to hydrolock the engine. The other one was #2 that seemed to have some moisture on the plug but no appreciable amount of water (just some vapour part of which was gasoline) shot out as the engine was spun to clear any standing water.

Hope to take her out for a run tomorrow to either rebuild trust or reveal a bigger issue (hopefully the former).

It will be fine.......enjoy the day and post a picture at cruise!

I agree with Playdate, thankfully it appears you dodged a bullet and everything is/will be fine.

I'm sure there is no need in pointing out the obvious, but since it wasn't mentioned, I will anyway.
Given that odds are the PO had both engines R&R ed by the same hands, it would be a good idea to
check the pulleys/accessories on both engines to preempt any other such occurrence.

And yes, pictures and more pictures. I'm more than curious how much room you have in there with twins.

Thanks for the comments. Already done checking the other engine for loose fasteners as you've mentioned! I'll post as soon as I can figure out how to get photos from my Mac to CSR. Trying to copy and paste, but that's not working...

There is quite a bit of room in the ER - the 4.3 engines are the same width as 5.7's but not as deep which leaves more room in front of the pulleys.

Here's some picks - I'll take some ER pics next time I'm at the boat!

Very nice. Looks like you had a beautiful day for it.
It's been more than a little warm here lately.

Thanks. Always nice to be out on the water. I've never bothered even trying to go to our Condo in Ft Myers during the summer, hot and humid I assume! Even here in Canada it's been 91 and humid for the last few days (but the water is fresh and cool). Today it was nice temps, but a bit too windy to enjoy boating.

Am curious what is the water temp when a Canadian refers to it as 'fresh and cool'? :)
Florida springs are right about 72 degrees year round and that's about all the 'fresh and cool' I can stand. ;)

I will confirm you suspicions about the summer weather down here . . . you've made a good call in that regard.

It hasn't happened yet this year, but there have been many August days in years past where offshore its in the mid nineties, the Gulf water temp is 86 degrees, and it's so calm you pray for just a wisp of air movement that doesn't happen. And when I say calm, I mean like you could watch a fish ripple move on away to the horizon.

Finally, wiping the sweat out of your eyes, you debate jumping in the water (even though you know it won't help a bit), and think 'Heck, it couldn't be more miserable than this, I'm going for it!'. When you hit the water, your first thought is "What the heck, did I just dive into a warm bathtub?" Then, after you climb back aboard, you come to the realization that you're not any cooler, and are more miserable because now you're sticky as well.
Then, the next inevitable debate is 'should we pull the hook and get some air moving to cool off?' . . . .

And that is why I got a generator solely to run the AC, when the house bank already ran everything else just fine.

Lake Huron is now getting warm enough to jump in without shocking the body too much. Right now it's 71 degrees. Being fresh water (as opposed to salt) there is no need to rinse the lake water off - just bake in the sun for 10 minutes and you're ready for another dip! There are some areas along the shore that are more protected or have far reaching shallow sand bars that heat up faster than the typical deep water. Where we are at the Southern base of Lake Huron, it drains into the St Clair River and has a constant 5MPH current there as a result. The closer you get to the mouth of the river, the faster the current and the colder the water! As a kid, I remember snorkelling in that fast current area in June and coming out with "brain freeze" from the cold water. Can't do that anymore - I'll wait for late July/August and on a hot day! It's rare here too to have an entire calm day.

UPDATE: GOOD NEWS - Been multiple times now and both engines run just fine!!

Here's some pics of the ER since you asked...

UPDATE: Engine appears to be just fine! Had her out more than a few times now and both engines run great!!

Engine Room pics as promised... The two wooden slats can be removed independently to gain more access if needed and are held in place with a single pin on each side. Not bad room for maintenance for a 27' boat! The hatch can also be raised with the lift sitting between the engines OR manually raised wide open as it is in the pics.
