Gentlemen I'm looking for some help on my 2004 280 with twins 4.3's and 100 Hrs.

Nov 15 I was running along smooth as silk heading to have her pulled for indoor storage when one of the engines went dead, no alarms or anything just dead.
the other engine went to 2k rpm im guessing as a safety measure. The dead engine cranks fine so its not locked up but it just wont start. we put a fresh 20 of gas in changed the fuel filters which didn't look bad and still no go. The only sign I can see is that when you turn the switch to start theres no chirp like normal. As I said the other engine runs, chirps perfect. The indoor storage mechanic says it electrical. At $90 per hour he's hunting for gremlins this is going to hurt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Go to rinda.com, and buy the $45 code reader. Sounds like your ECU may have made an early retirement. Also, have you checked the fuses/breakers for ignition & fuel pump? I know my 2001 has 3 fuses up by the manifold/ECU.

If you are talking about the MEFI Code Mate reader, it will not work on his ECM555 engines. His cheapest option would be Mercruiser Scan tool $399

If your getting air and fuel to the cylinders I would swap coils see of the problem follows.

Gentlemen,
after doing some further investigation heres what I got.
When the dash switch is flipped to start the motor I get no fuel pump runup sound that its charging the motor ( I do get the fuel pump runup on the other motor)
and no tone from the switch. The mechanic at the marina has looked at it and said he bypassed the switch and the fuel pump runs up and the motor starts up.
I have not found any breakers tripped anywhere on the boat.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Dan

If he jumps the switch then it's a bad switch... you sure he didn't say relay?
