Does anyone know what originally held down the engine hatch on a 1995 175 series Sea Ray?

I got the boat and it had a metal bar running across the back of the engine hatch and 2 plastic pieces screwed on to the actual fiberglass engine hatch and sat in the metal bar. Is this factory?
I dont think it is, if it is does anyone have any suggestions to make this different?
There is nothing holding the lid down, all the medal piece does is keep it from sliding front to back?

I would need pictures to be sure. But I believe the hatch was held in place by gravity (weight). It was just a lift up hatch. - Jeff

JP is right. What you have is factory original. From my experience there's no need to change it. Don't worry, it won't go anywhere. If you really felt the need, you could install a couple rubber hasps or even just some nylon webbing with snaps. But, honestly, you'd be wasting your time.

Ok, it just seems weird that it is sitting like it is. If i hit some wake it seems like it could fly up and off, or a bump while driving?
But if this is factory and you guys dont think i need anything else im going to install it just like it was!

By the way what do you mean by rubber hasps or nylon webbing? with snaps? Where would i put the rubber hasps or webbing?

Thanks!

Yup - there are thousands and thousands of these boats out there. Nothing to worry about.

A rubber hasp would be... have you ever seen the rubber "latches" that some big rigs, construction vehicles or school buses use to keep their engine cover down?

Nylon strap... basically, think of the strap that you use to hold your walk-through windshield secure when it's in the open position.

Where would you put it? Well, that would be your call. It depends on how well you can hide it (if at all).
