My 246 has a large wooden hatch cover for the engine, ID like to put a couple of shocks and a new hatch handle on it. Has anyone done this before? or would it be possible to get a fiberglass one for my boat.. 1981 246

It's not clear exactly what model you are referring to (signature mentions 245, but your post mentions 246?), but it's doubtful that you'll find a hatch. Do you have any pictures? Adding gas springs is easy and of course a handle is easier. If you felt so inclined, you could make a fiberglass hatch. I'm not sure what you fiberglassing skills are, but I just did one for a Grady. There's a few ways to do it, but it does take some patience and some time. A fiberglass hatch won't be light, either.

Im sorry fat fingers, its a 245, the hatch cover is solid wood and its not very light itself. as for the fiber glass skills I have none. Can you send me some pictures of the one you have done? Im pretty sure I'm going to do the gas shocks and locking latch on mine.

Also do you know if I can use a newer model cuddly hatch to replace to one thats on it now. id like to find one that has a screen on it to leave it open at night.
