I have a 1997 215 Sea Ray Express cuddy. The boat runs great and typically starts with no trouble. Latley, however, I've had problems after running for a while and then stopping at a dock or a beach, and then upon trying to re-start the engine seems to "choke out" and die. It seems like it isnt getting fuel, but I"m not sure. In neutral if I pump and pump it eventually gets going, but this isnt right. At one time I was suspicious that the kill switch on the throttle got bumped and that was the cuprit, but I dont know. VERY frustrating to have the boat seem to run so well, but then not want to re start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There have been a rash of no start issues like yours reported on CSR over the last several weeks which have been attributed to vapor lock. I don't ever remember so many reportings like we have heard this year. Maybe it is the preponderance of hot weather around a large part of the nation or maybe it is the blends of gasoline that we use.

I would say your description falls into the vapor lock category. I would suggest you do a search on the topic and read some of the other postings on this problem. They all have a common theme which is the boat has set for awhile (allowing heat soak and resultant vapor lock) and are difficult to start. The solutions are to let your motor idle for several minutes before turning it off, run your bilge blower, and open your engine hatch if necessary to allow better flow of air to cool off the engine and fuel-cooler.

Dave, thank you SO much for your reply. It seems so logical that vapor lock is the problem. I will look further into this. Again, thank you very much!

heres a part number for a vapor lock kit from merc. 862264A7 this will take care of the problem list price is 397.58 from merc. its expensive but when you are stuck out there and want to go its well worth it.
