Engine Buzzer Alarm on Searay- Where is the buzzer installed? Searay 180 Sport

I have a 2005 180 Sport with the 3.0L Mercruiser. Anyone know where the alarm buzzer installs in the wiring?

This engine did NOT come with the engine high temperature buzzer switch, oil pressure, or gear oil alarm. However, the boat does have the proper wires (Tan with blue line, and black) to install the sensors near the engine.

I called Searay and was told the buzzer should be near the shifter/throttle as it is closest to the driver, but when I looked under there I couldn't see any empty wires where I would install the buzzer. I know on other boats a lot of times it is right under the dash on the backside of gauge cluster and plugs into the wiring there.

Anyone already have the alarm and buzzer installed on a 3.0L, or install it on your own and know where it goes?

I want to install a temperature sensor for the odd chance that the engine is overheating. Don't care as much about monitoring the gear lube, but the high temperature seems like a no brainer and I can't believe Mercruiser and Searay didn't make this a standard option.

I tried to find the brown with blue line wire under there but had no luck.

Anyone out there with a smaller sized Searay or similar boat (2005 180 Sport) have the buzzer and share where theirs is installed so I have a better idea of where it may be tied into the wiring harness near the gauges?

180's of that vintage don't come with the alarm buzzers...you'll have to order them.

Agreed it was an option then. I'm curious where it plugs in specifically, that's my main question out of it all.
 
I just crawled under the dash of my 175 Sport to see what I could find out. The horn is just tiewrapped to the wiring bundle under there and has a long connector on it that plugs into a mating connector that has "H2A" handwritten on it in white. A purple and a tan wire leave that connector and then disappear into a whole bunch of wires wrapped around themselves and tiewrapped and electrical taped. That's as far as I could easily follow it.

ZZ13 thanks for confirming it is under the gauge area, I thought it would be but the Searay tech swore it would be near the shifter.

Bt Doctur thanks for the diagram, helpful to see how it mounts to the buzzer. From the diagram it looks like there should be a tan/blue wire with a female type socket for the buzzer wire male end to plug into.
 
There's a member on here, Lazy Daze, that I talked about this with when I had my 180 (2004). The thing about having a buzzer on that boat is that (1) it's annoying, and (2) lifting the engine hatch is so easy to check on things that, if you're paying attention, you shouldn't ever get into too much trouble.

You may have found that the fuel gauge goes fast in the middle of the gauge...I used to just lift the hatch to see the fuel tank (aft, port side) for a sure-fire level reading. To the "L" in the tank is 1/3 the fuel, or about 7 of 21 gallons. Plus, I got to check on everything else while I was back there.

The only value I see is a gear lube alarm to alert you if suddenly it all dumped out while underway. Otherwise with an oil pressure gauge and an engine temp gauge you don't need those two alarms.

I pretty much do the same and lift the hatch mostly. My gas gauge was spot on the first few years, now it has its odd drops and pauses. I usually just lift the hatch and check how I am doing. The buzz when you first turn the key definitely has to be annoying, but I think the temperature buzzer alarm would be valuable in case the engine started to overheat. Had an outboard once that caught a plastic bag on the intake and within a short amount of time the engine block was cracked. So i'm just trying to be cautious and am considering installing the thermostat temp buzzer alarm.

The only value I see is a gear lube alarm to alert you if suddenly it all dumped out while underway. Otherwise with an oil pressure gauge and an engine temp gauge you don't need those two alarms.
Yes the lube would be helpful I suppose if you are cruising along and the tube give out from dry rot or something like that.

If the wiring is all there and it isn't a huge investment of cash and time it seems like it would be nice to have the extra insurance they would bring.
 
My boat had the alarm... however it was taped to make it more quiet when i first purchased the boat.. And thats fine for at the dock. I had manifolds fail and the alarm was going off at speed, I could barely hear it.

I took the tape off.
This alarm gives you a level of redundancy.
When my boat did over heat. Alarm and Gauge were telling us that something was wrong. The question was raised that the gauge could be faulty as the boat was ran one week before with no issue. Knowing that the alarm is a separate indicator removed that doubt.


I rewired the Fuel/Voltage/Trim Gauges to the Accessory feed on the Ignition switch.
I found these gauges are used when the motor is not running. ie launching boat, Checking Trim before start, Checking battery or fuel level. This means that now the alarm only sounds for a very short while before the cranking of the engine.

My boats have always had an alarm - outboard or stern drive.. My Fathers 40hp OB does not have the alarm so you really have no idea if something is going wrong?

Find the wires mate... hook that buzzer up!

So I went under there digging around and found that the buzzer that exists belongs to my depth finder, and there is no buzzer installed from Searay for the engine. I do see the H2A which has a tan/blue, and then a blue wire entering. That seems to be it based on what you are saying. Is yours a black connector that is the water proof type? Does that then lead directly into the 2 wires on the buzzer?

I went to west marine to see if they sell the other end of that H2A adapter and they were clueless. Any idea if that is a common waterproof boat wiring connector? My plan is to try to find the other mating end and then wire in a buzzer.
