Engine alignment

Sorry for maybe a stupid question, but I just left my marina and they told me that my engines (twin 7.4 v-dives) are out of alignment. I have number of questions brewing in my head.

How does this "happen"?
How does it get fixed"?
How serious is this issue?
What happens if I don't do anything right away?
Is it a simple fix...does it have to be done by the marina mechanics?
And on, and on.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!
