I own a Macum SD2100 currently.
Soon to step up to a sea Ray cabin boat
Engines
5.7 inbds
I just bought a 1986 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge. 2- 5.7's with v-drives.
My issue is this. The port engine alarm works as it's supposed to. With the ignition "on" and the engine not running, the alarm sounds after a few seconds.
The stbd engine, however, the alarm never sounds. The gauges seem to work normally when it is running.

Any ideas why an alarm wouldn't work? Or what to check?

thanks!!!

Its a simple circuit
the buzzer gets power from ing switch

the negative is the hard part. it goes from the horn to an oil pressure switch on the block (When no oil its gets grounded and sounds buzzer) the wire is in series with a water temp switch than a trans temp switch (working the same way when they got hot they complete the circuit)

check the motor and see if any of the wires fell off

good luck

If you find nothing a miss at the motor you might went to turn the key on to make it go into alarm and then take a voltage reading at the buzzer to see if it is getting voltage if it is the the buzzer need replaced.

Saverio is correct the sending unit provides the ground for the buzzer. If the buzzer has 12 volts when the ignition is on; check the other side of the buzzer for ground.

It's very possible that the sending unit is bad - the easiest way to test is to turn on the key - pull the wire off the sending unit and ground it against the engine block. If it buzzes - replace the sending unit.

Good luck!!

I know this is an old thread but I have the same boat with the same problem. (260 Merc)
Can someone please confirm that the buzzer ground wire should be on the oil pressure sending unit? The unit right next to the distributor on the back of the motor, correct?
