Hi all. I have a 2001 340 Sundancer that is throwing a constant alarm on the starboard motor. It has the 8.1 litre motors in it. When the alarm sounded the engine temp was 165 or so , the oil pressure was around 45lbs and all was good. The engine seems to be in limp mode now with the alarm on constantly. The fluids are all full and visually the engine is fine. Any leads would be great? Any way to reset the Smartcraft system. I do not have digital gauges so there is no place to read any error codes. Thanks Tcat

Most common problem with conditions as you described is water pressure sensor, I keep two on board. A low reading will cause limp mode, High will just ring the bell. Have someone check first so you don't waste money, but common cause.

New info on alarm . Had the local Mercruiser repair man down today and pulled the code from the motor. The fault triggering the alarm was " secondary pump" problem. He has no idea what that is and neither does the people at mercruiser so far. Has this happened to anyone else? I googled searched the "seconday pump" and came up empty. Thanks tcat

The only thing I can think of for pumps is the raw water pump and the engine circulating pump. I would call the the raw water pump the primary and engine water pump the secondary but i have never heard of an alram noting that.

Thank You for your input. I would think if the engine water pump was commonly referred to as the "secondary pump" the people at Mercruiser would be aware that they programmed the on-board computer to recognize the error code. Tcat

Final update. Mercruiser called the mechanic and informed him the PCM's in my boat were a recalled item. I guess they are throwing false fault codes. I have 2 on the way. Thanks all for the help. Tcat
