Got up on a plane on Sunday and one of the audio alarms came on. There seem to be only two on this EFI engine and it was the lower pitched of the two. No de rate, no weird noises, just the steady audio warning. All gauges looked okay and engine was just serviced by the dealer.

I can't find any info that indicates what the two audio alarm sounds represent, but I hear both of them momentarily when I first turn the key on. I believe that part of it is a normal sequence before start up. BTW, this was the first time we have had this boat up on a plane. We normally run it at +/- 1100 RPM and take our time getting anywhere. (Maybe we should just by a trawler)

Is it safe to keep running and rely on the ECM to de rate the engine if there is a real problem?
Will the alarm be recorded in the ECM so I can retrieve it with a code reader?

is the drive oil level OK in the reservoir?....if it is a little low when the boat planes and angles the boat the oil in the reservoir can shift slightly which can be just enough to trigger the alarm...when the boat is level the oil in the reservoir shifts back just enough to satisfy the sensor in the reservoir and does not trigger the alarm....

Being a later model, you may be hearing a manifold/riser temp sensor alarm. If the riser is clogging, the temp will go up with higher engine speed. Also, check the electrical plug connection to the temp sensors ( one in each riser). If it is loose, it may be sending the alarm due to vibration at the higher engine speed or the increase in riser temp, but giving a false "too high" reading due to the loose connection.

To answer your second question, yes the code will be recorded in the historical record of the ECM. I have had a dealer check mine in the past to trace back an alarm.
