empty Vacuflush holding tank

Ok, so this pump-out stuff will be all new to me this year too. So if I'm charged $5-$10, do you still tip? Or only if it's free? I can't say it ever crossed my mind that I'd have to tip someone for getting a pump out! I knew that's why these forums are so great. :smt001

I think a tip is necessary anytime somebody has to deal with your sh*t.

I don't remember if I was the one that put the cap back on this last time or not. I checked the tank and it isn't full so I am going to try and get the cap loose this weekend.....I hope.

Check the top of the cap. There should be two dimples each about a 1/8" diameter, maybe an 1" apart on the cap. You can get a 'deck plate' key from any marine supply house that fits those dimples and will give you enough torque to get the cap off. Don't forget the waste cap is NOT on a safety chain.

The link below to West shows a couple of the keys.

Tom,

Honestly, I don’t think I ever paid $5 for a pump out and did not also get fuel. In the past when I went to full service docks I would normally tip $5. The person had to do something bad to not get a tip from me.

The dock attendant would help me dock, tie off, pump-out, back flush, re-pump & fuel the boat. At the same time I normally off-loaded my trash and I often purchased ice. Then the attendant would help us drop lines and cast off.

Today I no longer do the above. We are at a private marina and we have free self-serve pump-outs.

Yes I have one of those. the plastic and metal one. I am going to just suit up and try it again this weekend. Luckily it is on the same side of the dock as the water hose!

Cutting TVOGT a bit-o-slack here, maybe the question is referring to the vacuum tank rather than the actual holding tank. I know when I got our boat which was our first with vacu-flush I did wonder at first if anything was in the vacuum tank that should be removed in a method other than at the marina pump out. Just a thought. Don't be afraid to explain your question in more detail tvogt.
