It's only bad if you use it all the time and don't fix the problem that caused you to use it in the first place. Is it dangerous? No

The emergency start button activates a solenoid that bridges the two battery backs together. Like hotoddie says, not dangerous. It can dump huge amounts of current into the dead battery set so you do need to fix the problem... although sometime its just that you sat too long while playing the stereo and running a refrigerator or two.
