Electronics Upgraded Advice

So I just bought a 1998 310DA and can't wait to get it in the water. However the electronics package is way out of date and needs to be upgraded.

The boat right now is equipped with the following:
Raychart 601xx
Raymarine NAV398/LORAN
Older Raydata Depthfinder

It looks like I'm missing a big screen at the helm and there's no radar dome.

I was looking at replacing these with either the Garmin GPSMap 546s or the Raymarine A50. I think these are similar units but again I don't know much about this stuff yet.

I need help with what to buy and look for. I will not be going on real far boat trips and really don't need a $5000 setup. Ill be boating cape cod and the islands only.

Any advice anyone can give me?

I was also going to replace the old clarion stereo with the new Fusion MP3 stereo, anyone have any reviews on this?

Last summer I took out the Raymarine stuff (radar/chartplotter) and installed a Garmin 4210 in my 2000 340DA. This summer I'm putting in a Garmin radar. The 2000 bus makes it easy to hook things up. I took the boat out for 10 days in the San Juan Islands (north of Seattle) and couldn't have been more pleased with the Garmin. Paid $1,850 for the 4210. If it was me I would put in the largest unit that will fit in your panel.
