I have the original raymarine suite of electronics (2001) and would like to upgrade. I use my iPad for most navigation and it’s fine for the most part but I do see the value in upgrading. I just don’t want to spend a ton of money, it needs to fit and I want to intigrate with the existing autopilot. Not much to ask right? I just have no idea - and not sure if any prior (updated) models will fit and work. 13” exterior width for the displays is about max. That rules out e120’s I think. Someone has had to of done this - am I stuck going new? I just don’t think I need all the newest toys, I would be happy with an upgrade to a prior series. Can anyone advise?

Thinking 2 mfd’s, open array’ and ?

Thanks

Russ

I am in the midst of this as I type... I think you have to go new unless you find a great deal on some used stuff...

I went all Furuno, they have a rebate until 12/31 that is significant. for reference I did the TZTL12F 12" display and DRS6A-NXT open array. It requires a heading sensor and array, but will integrate with your older raymarine stuff.

Russ - my boat originally had an SR Navigator and the same Raymarine electronics that you have. I also installed a Furuno TZTL12F in the lower helm where the Navigator was, it fits perfectly. I did not replace the radar or display yet as I haven’t found anything to fit the upper electronics box properly.

Interesting, thanks Josh

So your using the Furuno as a Chartplotter? Why not get the array and plug in? Does Furuno have a smaller display that would fit above? - for a second mfd?

Josh, where did you find the best price?

Yes, strictly using it for charting and engine room cameras at this time. That's my plan once either the scanner or the RL80 bite the dust. They make a TZT9 but I don't think anything with a widescreen format will fit up top.

I see. Are you sure about up top? I measure 13” wide, it appears most new 12” mfd’s will fit - am I missing something?

Honestly, it's been two years since I looked into it so maybe I'm mistaken. Looking at pictures I believe it would be a tight squeeze for the TZTL12F.

I think you can fit the TSTL12F. It's under 12.6" if I remember correctly. I have new panels coming from Tecnografix as we speak. As far as best price, I would go with Jim at BOE. Just for reference you will need.

MFD's
Radar Pedestal or Dome
Radar Array
Heading Sensor
NMEA 2000 wiring and Tee's
Transducer

If you have multiple displays or want to add satellite weather then you will also need a hub.

Here is my setup

TZTL12F Chartplotter
PG700 Heading Sensor
DRS6A-NXT Pedestal
XN12A 4ft array
525STID-MSD Transducer
BWX3 Satellite weather recevier
SRA-50 XM Antenna ( I had to purchase an extended cable)
Standard Horizon GX2200 VHF with AIS
Milltech Marine NX-70 nmea to nmea 2000 ais adapter
Netgear Hub (make sure it is 12v if you want to hardwire like me)

The chartplotter has nmea 0183 output so I am outputting it to my raymarine st7000 autopilot

Interesting Josh, I will call you soon - thanks

Russ, I was at the boat on Saturday and checked the dimensions. It looks like the TZTL12F will fit up top but there's just shy of 13" of flat surface so not much room for error. You'd also have to have a pretty tall filler plate to cover the old hole which might look odd.
