so ive been going through this 87 230 weekender, inspecting and checking things out. Then this happened... first, ive charged both batteries to full. They are 3 years old. i started the engine and idled for a short time. I shut off the engine and left the blower on. a minute later i loose ALL power. No gauges, no lights nothing. I check the batteryes and i have 12.6 volt, full. Is there a master braker or fuse im missing? Please help.

Thank you in advance!

start with checking your main ground on the engine block tightening it is not good enough remove it clean it then put it back on the block. Then check the main plug at the motor pull it apart and clean it up.Then check connection at the ignition key switch.Check connection at the main breaker on the motor.

ok ill try that. Ive been looking for the main breaker on the motor, but i cant find it.... where is it supposed to be?

left hand side looking at motor if yours os like mine it has the red button directly above screw on fuel filter

no, nothing there on mine...im perplexed. with all the other trouble im finding I may have made a newbie mistake and bought a boat from a less than honest seller.... very disappointed here...

would be helpful to know what motor you have too. The one in your signature line?
try posing a pic of the motor, the usuall place is just above the fuel filter ,right next to the slave solenoid. Depending on the harness it could also be just behind and to the right of the carb.

Fully charge the batteries, then have them draw tested. Before you waste a lot of money. It all starts with the batteries.

i think thats an OMC set up??

Start at the ingnation switch. Do you have a 12 v test light?

remove the switch and see if you have 12v?

if not follow the wire keep going back.

if you have it at the switch and you turn key nothing happens you might have a bad switch. easy to test with the test light

I responded to your PM, but now I see this thread and the picture... I was under the impression you had a Mercruiser, not an OMC...

Sadly, the OMC's weren't very good to begin with, and are no longer supported parts wise on many levels... They haven't been manufactured since the mid 90's (96 i think was the last year), so you are going to have a difficult time keeping that thing maintained. I never worked on them much... (mostly light maintenance) since i worked for mercury. So I cant offer you a lot of advice here, I am sorry.

OMC engine parts are basically the same as merc, usually a GM base engine. Outdrives on the other hand are totally different. Parts are available, do internet searches but you will probably have to do the work yourself as not many places work on OMC anymore.
