Electrical power loss on starboard engine of 06 40da Cummins QSB380

Posting for my father...

while running into a marina today the starboard engine lost electrical power & power steering then quit.

Boat was docked on one running motor. Trying to start the starboard engine immediately trips the breakers.

I don't have a ton of details yet or any more specifics really.

Any thoughts on cause of the problem??

My suspicion is that there's an alternator failure or the starter is grounding perhaps?

First thing I would check for is chafed wires. Sounds like something is grounding out.
