I'm pretty electrically challenged but usually can muddle through something if I work on it long enough. I'm stumped now.

Although it may me insignificant, here's a little history. 3 years ago or so, my horn quit working. I narrowed it down to the switch or relay panel or Electronic Interface Module as Searay refers to it. With the EIM at about $200 and a switch less, I figured the switch was most likely it so I got a new one. Nope, that wasn't it.

So I bypassed the EIM and added a momentary switch just so I had a horn.

Before putting her down for the winter, everything else worked fine.

While getting her ready for the season a couple weeks ago I was checking lights etc. I tested the anchor light, no problem. But when I checked the running lights, which also power the anchor light, "CLICK" off the light went. If I depress the switch and hold it, the lights flick on and off with the click click click as if the relay is kicking off as soon as it powers the circuit. On the the next test.

I turn on the courtesy lights and no problem. When you turn the courtesy lights on, it powers the circuit for the head and helm storage overhead lights which each have their own switch. If I turn either one on, CLICK, off go the courtesy lights. Same deal as the running lights. As soon as you power either overhead light, it's as if the relay kicks them off.

I'm looking through the schematic trying to get an idea of what may be common between any of the issues and it's not working out simple. I have to say though, having the schematic with all the wires in the boat numbered is awesome; kudo's to Searay for providing that in the manual.

So, the only thing I could think of, and a dealer tech at the time agreed with is that the EIM was bad which is why the horn stopped working. It could just be a relay, but they're all on the board so they can't be replaced.

The new problems aren't as simple as I'd hoped. The only thing in common is the ground buss they all use. But everything else on that same buss works fine. I'm going to inspect it closer today.

The courtesy light issue is tough because all 4 lights, switch and non-switched share 1 of 2 common ground points and one common power point which of course is the same relay.

The running light issue is a little different. Ground is shared by the running lights where the anchor light is on another buss. Power is from 2 different relays.

Before I just replace the EIM, I'm trying to make sure there isn't an obvious problem. Of course all fuses are OK and I even switched them around just for kicks.

So, seeing that I just wrote a book, I'll try to summarize.

-Anchor light works fine. When pressing the Running Light switch, relay kicks off.

-The 2 non-switched Courtesy lights work fine. But when I turn the switch on to either overhead light, the relay kicks off.

The difference in the 2 issues is that the courtesy light switch powers the entire circuit for all 4 lights, but 2 lights are independently switched. The Anchor light can be switched separate, but the Running Lights switch powers both anchor and running lights and it kicks off while the anchor light independently works fine.

I'm heading up there in a little bit to try to isolate the issue further, and inspect all ground points on the buss and inspect in general. I just wish if a relay was bad it would look burned or something. :D Oh, I'm also going to try the new switch I've had for 3-4 years to make sure this new problem isn't just the switch.

Any ideas would be very helpful. Also, any ideas where to get parts like these other than the stealer, I mean dealer, would be great. I also need to replace the horn. 1 of the 2 goofy "buzzers" has died. I'd love to find a real horn in the same shape for that hole.

Nevermind. :smt017

Got up there and everything was working fine. :smt038 Even the horn (well, funky buzzer) was working correctly. My guess is that when the horn got wet (it was) and one of the buzzers (I can't bring myself to call them horns  ) got wet and wasn't working, it may have been shorted. Since it shares the ground that everything else did, I'm assuming it was shorting it somehow? Who knows. I'm hoping that's it because I hate problems that come and go.

I had a hard time not taking it to the lake too. We got a ton of rain yesterday and all the lakes are coming up quick. To top it off, in spite of all the nasty weather last night, it's crystal clear and sunny as can be. :D

That was going to be exactly my input. If some things work when others are off, but don't work then the others are on, it's either a bad circuit panel (common link) or a short in the item itself. My first inclination regarding the common ground was that that couldn't be the problem - it's a ground! But, on a boat, there really isn't ground (ie dirt). It's a common circuit of items where wayword electrons go when you're done with them, sort of.

Any way you look at it, I'm glad it seems to be resolved.
