Hello All,

My 280 sundancer doesn't have a generator. I have a honda eu2000i which I've never used because it's loud, fumes, and..... where the hell do I put it when i'm anchored and it's running? haha.

I was doing some research on chargeable generators and portable solar panels. I found interesting options like this http://www.americanpatriotlife.com/patriot-power-generator

but I'm not sure about how they perform.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I think it depends on what you want to power, and for how long. If you want to use it for A/C it won't last too long?

I would be inclined to add another battery to my bank and install panels on top of the boat. I was planning on adding panels this year to keep the 2 batteries charged, but I moved to a slip with shore power.

Thanks for the response. I have 3 12v batteries and keep the boat in a slip with shore power.

I'm thinking about running all of the a/c stuff for anchoring overnight where shore power would not be available.

A/c is very power hungry. I think you will quickly deplete your batteries. That will leave you unable to start the engine.

Thanks.

I guess I should clarify. I'm hoping to get suggestions on portable generators that are not gas/diesel powered. Something I can use when anchored as I would if my boat had it's own generator

I installed a 2000W inverter attached to my house batteries (2). And yes, it will kill your batteries, so I run the engine for awhile until cabin cools down, then just use a fan to keep cool in the cabin. A whole lot less $ for an inverter, about $150.
