Electric Emergency Flares

I'm a fan but be prepared if you get your USCG inspection stickers annually - not all CG Auxiliary are fully aware of this "new tech" which is not actually that new :)

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my stock piles of old flares. Got em in the garage, in the truck, not many more uses these days...
just explain that it is CG approved and show him the label enough said I bought at bigger floating version from Sirius love it. I keep the flares around just in case

Hah. Yeah...it's an interesting situation when you're trying to explain to the USCG that something is USCG approved :) There was no "enough said" involved...it was a full-on negotiation.

They work great I just recommend don’t use regular batteries as they will leak over the years. I use the Energizer Lithium batteries and test it every year.

I was looking over my ARC and read this on the label. Very interesting on the lithium battery thing. Looks like they don't want these being used. They want the alkaline replaced yearly, but the lithium replaced 5 years before they actually expire.

One of the bad things about packaged lithium batteries is they can become unstable if the internals get wet. Alkaline batteries because they store less energy are not as risky in wet conditions.
