What is pitting my new-ish eisenglass?

I have some one year old eisenglass in the front of out 280 that is getting pitted just like the old ones we replaced. We keep our boat in the slip in the water (salt) all the time. I use Plexis on it, but is seems to be decaying.

I have used the Plexis, Novis polish, Mothers plastic and power ball... But I cant get rid of the pitting that is left over The spots are small about 1/16 to 1/8 inch. What is doing this? Is it chemicals from the planes above? Salt air? Maybe something growing maybe barnacles?

What is it, then how do I get rid of it?

Thank You,
Rich

It is likely from salt water droplets left on the glass to dry. There may also be some acid rain in those water dropletts. If the boat is put away, even once, like that you will have some damage. That happened to my new 290 and I was anal about cleaning the boat.

We live near Baltimore and BWI.There is a constant amount of pollutants that fall. Our glass on previous boats would last two seasons with impeccable care. Now I have covers made for the windows in the winter time.We are getting three times the life.

Good luck

Do you let people use spray on sunblock on your boat? The admiral brought some on board last year and I about went ballistic. You can find posts scattered all over the place about sunblock staining seats and messing up the 'glass. Just a thought.

Chemical fertilizers/pesticides that maybe used around your marina that get airborne could cause discoloration.

When we bought our boat the eisenglass was pitted and I asked the dealer about it. His opinion was that small dirt/salt/etc particles left on the 'glass were heated in the sun and caused the pitting. He suggested frequent, careful cleaning or using a mooring cover during the warmest summer months.

Rich,

When you return from a trip do you rinse the eisenglass with fresh water to get all the salt water out and wipe it dry? Which are the exact spots that are getting burned, got a picture?

We wash down our boat after every use. It dose bake in the hot SoCal sun. We now have a cover to cover the whole front.

It sounds like I will have to replace the plastic panels.
