Hello, I'm looking to install new new camper canvas (black) on a 2003 340 Sundancer. I need to decide on Eisenglass or Screen windows for the back quarters and rear. The front will be Eisenglass. Any feedback on Eisenglass vs Screen windows would be appreciated. I'll be boating mostly on the Califronia Delta and keep the boat in San Francisco Bay in Sept or Oct each year. Thanks!

Why not have it both ways? My enclosure has glass with a screen material sewn on the outside. I can unzip the glass when warranted and enjoy the outside air without worrying about bugs. The screen material also tends to cut down on glare and heat transmission through the glass. The only change I would make would be to have the screen material on the inside because it tends to trap outside dust and dirt and is therefore a little bit difficult to clean. If it has to be one or the other I would say glass; screen alone doesn't seem to me very useful since there will be times when I would want/need to completely close up (in a rainstorm for instance).

I have a 2007 320DA that I had a camper enclosure made for and I went with screen/eisenglass on the side quarter panels and for the center section on the stern. If it is warm out I just unzip the eisengalss and roll them up. If the weather turns bad, down they come and we stay warm and dry. It also works great for boating all year round here in NC. I also had a piece made out of the screen material that replaces all of my front eisenglass and goes down over the front and side windshield. It works great for tempering the sun and if you are out on the hook you can get additional airflow and keep the bugs out,

eisenglass w/screens for the quarters
eisenglass only for the rear
the screens in a rear curtain really cut down visibility

I had both screen and eisenglas made for my 330. The screen was made from a material called Phifertex (sp?) and were actually pretty cheap because they were able to use the same pattern for the screens they had made for the windows.

The screens reflected enough sunlight that it kept the cockpit temperature about 20* lower than outside temps when it was hot.

We have canvas, screen eisenglass on our. The canvas and eisenglass unzips and rolls down.

I also have the screens and eisenglass for my camper canvas. I really enjoy the versitility of having both. My only complaint is with the glass rolled up and using just the screens it still cuts down on the air flow and can still get hot. If you live in an area where you dont have to worry about bugs (if there is a place) I would not have the screens. MHO

BeachComer,

Love the idea of having screens up front. I need to look into that. Do you cruise with them up or do you remove them when traveling?

I have screens in place in the rears and side, but the clear rolls down. They looks like big lower case "n"s with the straps and snaps on the bottoms. For the front center panel (where the window flips to the side to reach the bow), I have a clear "n" cutout/zipper as well, but that one has a separate outside screen that I can velcro in place as needed and remove whenever I want.

If I have my camper top in place, I run with the sides and back plastic rolled down and the front screening removed. I put front/center velcro screen in when moored/docked so my vision is unobstructed when under way.

I have screens for the front. They go in in place of the eisenglass from the windshield to the canvas. They are great for use on the hook or at the dock. They allow air movement and the cockpit doesn't get super hot when they are up with the rear screens.

But, they have to come down when underway if you want to stand up while driving.

HHmmmmm.....velcro in screens for the front? That is a cool idea! I also have the uside down U shape that rolls down. I wonder if I can get my canvas guy to modify with a little velcro to let the air flo thru but keep the bugs out?

Theyre actually not Velcro. They are cut and sewn to mirror the eisenglass. They snap on the windshield and zip at the top. My canvas guy made them for the PO, they came with the boat.

We have our rear camper setup as follows:

Stern-most section, has 3 sections, one larger (center) and 2x smaller ones. The smaller ones are strata, no screen. This gives ultimate clarity on both rear corners. Great for docking, and visibility. The larger panel, as well as the 2 side panels are rolled vinyl (better for rolling) with screens. We have privacy panels for all via Velcro.

Everyone who sees our setup copies it :)

I have all screens and then separate panels that are all sunbrella. Solid panels go up when we are not here or when we need to keep the sun out. Screens for when we want the "screen porch" feeling. All the panels are interchangeable so sometimes we mix and match. Check out the 370sundancer site, I have a page devoted to
camper canvas.

Strataglass for the front 5 panels and screen for the aft during the summer. I have blackouts to keep it cleaner in the slip. I am going to install my Strataglass panels tomorrow in preparation for my cruise to the bay next weekend. I will keep the Strataglass on until April or May. If you are having the canvas done now, have isenglass installed then have screens made in the Spring. Who is doing your work?

Todd,

Perino The Canvas Man in Islip did it for me at a reasonable price. He also added straps with snaps to my existing n's to keep them from flopping around when they are all the way down so as to prevent them from getting scratched up.

The rear on mine is black canvas with sunscreen and a roll down glass

The 2 rear quarters were clears. They were a pain in the butt to put back on, my wife and daughter couldn't do it. I replaced the m with black canvas with a sunscreen section that has a roll down canvas on the outside. They are lighter and easier to remove and refit. They also work much better in regards to shade when the sun is beating down

Our Customers like to have the Camper back style With glass in the front. The camper has the screens sewn into the sunbrella with turn buckled flaps over them that can roll up for the air to circulate. Works well for most people. It is a custom job.
