Our marina SS3 LIndenhurst N.Y. Has seasonal Ell grass problems like so many other marina may have,

I'm told that there are screens that will protect the boats from Ell Grass ingestion with a screen called [SOUTH BAY SCREENS] that are installed on all boats bought from M.M..at certain Marina's,in the south bay.....

Any one in the South Bay Area Familiar with these???

is your boat equiped with screens? if not there a really good idea for the south bay. For those not familiar, this are bornze covers that go over water intakes. They have many small holes about 1/8" that will not let eel grass pass through. If you don't have them overheating can become and issue Last season was a very bad grass your. Tough on jet skis

Obvious question is what happens when the eel grass accumulates on the screen while the pump is going? I frequently empty my strainers of eel grass.

Bill,
You need to have these put on your boat - they call them south bay strainers for a reason - if running inboards in this bay, you must have them put on (you very well may already have them - ask MMax to verify).

If I remember, you bought your boat from MM in CT, so you likely do NOT have the South Bay strainers installed. I don't have a picture of mine but can tell you every Sea Ray I've bought from SS3 came with them installed on every inlet but the AC. Look (or have someone at SS3 look) at your survey pictures when the boat was in the lift. You should be able to tell if you've got them or not without hauling the boat, though the fact that you had an issue would lead me to believe you will need them installed at least on the mains and probably the gen too.

Thanks Brian,

Yes, the boat was from Conn and delivered through M.M. SS3, i'm hoping that they were put on during the delivery /survey process....
i have pictures, but not sure where the strainers are.....

The survey performed in Conn.....
