Can anyone tell me how much of a wiring nightmare to change over from Ray to Garmin. My 300 has a smartcraft Navman as well I use it mostly for fuel use meters.

I changed out the factory installed original Raymarine chart plotter/sonar, auto pilot, radar, and vhf on both my 420 and 320 to all Garmin equipment. Not a big deal for the wiring. It took me longer to cut the holes and making filler plates for the new equipment. Each boat took me 3 full days to complete the changeover. Love the Garmin equipment.

What info are you looking for regarding the wiring? If you don't have NMEA0183 systems, the wiring couldn't be much easier. If you're building your first NMEA2000 network you'll want to study some diagrams because you can connect them incorrectly, but it's pretty basic.

NMEA2000 VHF's have come down in price so much that it might be worthwhile to include a new one in your project.

When you disconnect the Raymarine electrical power wires just hook up the Garmin wires the same way. If your are then connecting the units so they talk to each other ie. autopilot to chart plotter then you use the NMEA connectors as RollerCoastr stated.
