Dumb political question for someone who doesn't understand

Was in under construction before Biden signed an executive order to halt construction on his first day in office. The pipeline would have transported Canadian crude to our refineries in the South for sale in the US. Would have increased our output of refined products. The alternative way to getting crude to refineries is by rail. Warren Buffet, big Democrat, owns the rails and his companies would have lost revenue with the pipeline in place. Increasing production of refined products would lower the price of oil so this would have helped us do that and benefited Canada companies as well. It was a bonehead move driven by progressive ideology. Trump was able to cut through the red tape that was holding up construction prior to his election. Environmental lawsuits had bogged the project down in certain areas of the country while the project was worked on in other areas of the US.
Thank you. So no oil flowing yet.

I would add that its existence and progress drove down futures prices as the investors believed it would reduce the cost of oil.

The crazy thing is the big reason cited for shutting it down is environmental damage even though Buffet’s trucks do far more damage. Follow the money…

Not thru Keystone, but as you know, we have many pipelines. This particular line goes through a native American reservation and that nation initially opposed Keystone. Somehow that opposition was quelled. Not sure how that was accomplished but I believe Trump many have been involved. Similar concerns by various states that were also resolved. Work was in the final stages of completion before Biden killed the project.
As an aside, our best offense against Russian aggression would be to drive down the price of oil by resuming exploitation of our production capabilities. Fracking is also under attack by this administration. By going back to our position of energy independence, we would lower the price of oil and deprive Putin of his ability to finance his agenda. The Biden administration will not likely go down that path even though it would benefit the country. This is a complex problem due to Russia's control of nuclear weapons. I keep thinking about how Japan bombed Pear Harbor in response to our sanctions. Putin is a dangerous guy. Good to see Europe beginning to see the need to seriously rein him in. How he will react is an unknown at this point.

Why would Russia care about these Sanctions being imposed? Can someone please help me understand how or why that makes a difference?
Well, the value of the Ruble has tumbled by 30%+. There has been a run on the banks to the tune of $7B. Trading has yet to resume on the Russian stock market. The Russian people are demonstrating in the streets, despite the fact that such an act can get them disappeared. So there's that.

Russia will now care because the sactions hit the Russian central bank, and that bank is how Russia gets paid for oil. Can't get paid? No money coming in. Ouch.

And if no one will do business with him, no money going out. Flush with cash he can not use. Sort of like “all dressed up and no place to go.”

The Keystone pipeline went in in stages. The last proposed stage is Keystone XL, it's the part being held up. Oil is flowing in the rest.

We'll see what happens, Pootan might just turn off the energy spigots to Europe, no pay so no fuels,..... or just nuke everybody.

Some big tit for tats could be coming.

The ruble is now worth about one cent American. Consumer credit cards used by many Russian consumers stopped working today for transactions like paying for rides on the subways and buses due to sanctions on Russian banks. Can you imagine how disruptive this would be to a person’s way of life when this happens almost overnight?

Exactly. It blows my mind how this hasn't happened yet. He controls what - 50% of their natural gas, if not more?

Mike, that was my next response. Trucks/trains use far more fossil fuels to transport than a pipeline, correct?
Scott, I heard this morning that Putin gets aggressive when oil is high. Of course, it's all about the $$.
Putin has cleaned up $$$ wise since the day big Joe took office and shut down the XL. In fact I would think that has increased his cash flow at least 10X's.

@Iprof will be along shortly to explain it to you, because you are obviously too stupid to figure it out. Dummy.

Look, Ibuprofen boy doesn’t have the grey matter cells sufficient to articulate a cogent position on the geopolitical machinations of Russia and the EU.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because the United States imposed sanctions on them. We can expect the same from Russia.
I suspect Putins version of bombing Pearl Harbor is going to come in a modern version - think hacking companies and other highly disruptive cyber-attacks. Stay tuned fellas - when you wake up one of these mornings and CSR doesn’t boot up, you’ll know it’s happening!
