Dry Storage for a 340

I used to keep my 300DA on a rack but now my 390 is in a wet slip. It's all in how you weigh the pros and cons.

From my experience......

Pros of dry stored over wet slip:
Boat stays cleaner
Less bottom maintenence
No bottom paint necessary
More easily serviced in most cases
No concerns about lines
No wake / wave induced damage
Likely more storm safe

Pros of wet slip over dry stored:
You can spend time on the boat at any time generally
No damage from poor yard workers handling boat
You can come and go from your slip any time
No waiting on lifts to access your boat
You can keep supplies (food / drink) on board (if shore powered)
More marina comradarie usually

You have to decide what is most important to you.

Per Aerobaticflyer "More marina comradarie" This to me is the BIG advantage. A lot of the fun of boating comes from friends you meet on the dock and the "dock" parties....

Great question, and one that I've asked several marina mx personnel. Bottom Line: depends on what you want to do with/on boat and how much $$ you want to spend on winterization.

I'm keeping my 340 DA in the water as the one interesting point that one technician pointed out to me is that the larger the boat, the higher percentage you should keep in in the water. Why? Because the water supports the boat more uniformly than racks/blocks do and is actually better (structurally) for the boat

Thanks for the input. We are 12 miles from the boat now. We are tired of the river and want to cruise the Alabama/North Florida coast. Boat will be 7-hour drive one way. Our use would only be once every 4 to 6 weeks. Since I am semi retired we can stay a few days each time. I feel the boat would be safer out of the water. Their are several nice Marinas we can rent a slip in while we are on the boat.

I've always thought a boat benefits from being out of the water in a clean, dry place when it's not being used. I see all of these nice boats in Key West that are the same age as mine, and the ones not being used are dirty and much older looking than mine even if they are the same age and make. Just keeping a boat clean and waxed year round is not a trivial expense. Add canvas repairs, bottom cleaning, and the list goes on...........We actually enjoy putting our boat away in the fall. And, we will enjoy getting it out again in 4 1/2 months.
