drinking problem?

i am curious if anyone has done any math as to how much fuel a 5kw kohler generator burns. i run mine every time i am at the boat but only intermittently and not for long periods of time. one reason is because i am not sure of the actual fuel burn and another is what does the manufacturer recommend? run the piss out of it or use it only in short bursts when needed. i would run it more too if the damn thing wasn't so loud in the cabin....:smt021

I do not have fuel burn rates but I do have a thread on making your generator quieter. I have always heard "use it or lose it". MM

As I recall it is about 1/2 gal per hour. And as far as running let it warm up for a minute or so then load it up.

I could be wrong but I thought it was actually closer to .8 or 1 gallon an hour. I thought I read that in Koehler's literature. I think these things run best when just left on for long periods. I have 775 hrs on mine and it runs like a top. New plugs and such only.

+1 on the sound shield. I've read the threads on making it quieter, but ours is relatively unnoticeable with the sound shield. Also, remember that its basically a two cylinder motorcycle engine. Ours is 7.5kw or so but I thought a gallon an hour was closer to the center of the operational bell curve.
