I got a call yesterday morning from a dockmate that our boats were gone. Literally our entire section broke free in a storm and floated away. Thank goodness it all went North and was recovered by tugs instead of going south into the Michigan St bridge. What a shit show. 2 boats were damaged, but we we escaped unscathed.

Wow!!! And I thought the call saying our kayak had been stolen off the dock was bad!!

Glad to hear your boat is ok!

The “dreaded call” I have had nightmares about is a dock fire on my boat or a neighbor’s boat. Our marina had a fire last fall that started on one boat and spread to several others. That was ugly. :(

I thought about you yesterday, @spikedaddy99 !!! We have friends at Quarterdeck that shared that story online. I wondered if you might be at this marina. Man ohh man...what an ordeal. You guys are super lucky...how often is the current not flowing toward that bridge? Yikes....

We had a similar thing happen several years ago. The docks pulled away from land so the boats where there own little island.

More pics. Blimp was taking aerial views.

Rumor has it the wind was 50+mph from the west basically blowing Green Bay into Lake Mi. Then it calmed and as the water rushed back to the Bay, the current was 12+ MPH and thats what broke us free.

Glad you're OK... could have been allot worse.

Wow that's a lucky break. Glad to hear your boat is ok.

Having trailered that’s something I’ve never thought of! Although in a storm once when I was younger, our family boat floated out of Put in Bay into Lake Erie as dock line rotted out and my folks didn’t catch it.
Luckily a fellow boater saw it drifting and towed it back in to the harbor.

Glad your boat fared well!

Our Marina's contract - they are not responsible for anything caused by and on their property, equipment, or personnel. And, we must maintain a $500K liability policy to protect theirs and other owner's property. I think most are the same. So if anything happened to my boat in a situation like that it would be another claim on my insurance.... I'm a PIA to the yard workers with anything wrong on the docks and at haul-out time as I go over the travel-lift, slings, pads, and blocking before they pick the boat; I do throw them a C note for their patience with me after the haul and scrape.

I've often wondered should you notice a problem with the marina (like the docks are breaking) and told them about it who then carries liability should they not correct the problem and something happens...
