I have a new to me 2005 Sea Ray 180 Sport. I just picked it up and will be gathering required safety gear tonight to try and practice launching.

There is a drain plug in the transom under the motor that is wired and is steel with a square head to tighten.

I was impressed at the snap-out floor and when I pulled it up, there is a round hole cover. When I removed, there is also a drain plug there that is the brass/rubber kind that you put in and bend the tab over. This was in the floor in front of the moter, so a seperate hole then the one in the transom.

Do I need to plug both before getting in the water (I know, sounds dumb) and what is the difference between the two?

It sounds like you found the drain in the ski locker which is located under the carpet inside the boat. This drain does not need to be pluged as it allows the water to drain into the beilge where it can be pumped out of the boat.

Hi Mike,

I'm new to the forum but found something to reply to already!

I learned the hard way that if you get a lot of water in the bilge and don't have the plug to the ski locker sealed you get all of the oily bilge water on your skis! I keep it closed unless I'm purposely looking to empty water from the ski locker. Enjoy your boat!

Interesting point since I keep my PFD's in the Locker since we don't ski!

I thought you could plug it to put ice in the locker and keep the beer in there....

A couple of other "obvious" questions, but I am new to this:

1. Where would you recommend mounting the Fire Extinguisher.

2. Does the Clarion M235 have a port on the back for an iPod?

3. What are good standard tools to keep in the boat?

4. What is the best cleaner for the boat?

5. What would you keep in the net storage under the passenger console?

Thanks for any advice...I love this forum!

This is why many on this board are neat freaks in the bilge and engine compartment. Any oily residue that might get on your skis or life jackets will also get pumped over board in the event you get water in your bilge. It is important to keep your bilge are clean of debris and oil free to keep the lakes, rivers, oceans clean as well as make sure your bilge pump and associated floats or automatic switches work effectively and when needed. The worst thing that could happen is your pump fails when you are taking on water for some reason because it sucked up a bunch of grease from your bilge. In that case your gonna need your life jackets and you won't want them full of oil!

Ahhh. So the little cable attached next to the locker drain hole, with the threaded copper thing at the end of it, is supposed to have a rubber plug on the end of it? I was wondering what that dangling thing was for. Guess the previous owner took that as a souvenier as well.
