Drag Race Between 220SD's

Boating World Magazine drag raced two 220SD's...the new MerCruiser 250 hp 4.5L V6 vs. the 5.0L 260 hp V8...both sterndrives. The huge margin with the V6 is interesting but I'd like to see the same test with the V6 against the 5.7L V8.

Cool, that's interesting. I wonder if the better hole shot may have something to do with a lower gear ratio. Kind of like how a hot rod with 456's would wax a similar car with a 373 gear set off the line, but the 373 set would allow for a higher top end. Just a thought. I'm presently working on a deal for a 21 ft fishing boat with a V-6 in it. I believe they're great little engines for economical putting around but ya still can't beat cubic inches and horse power for top end and stamina when it comes to boats eh?

I wouldn't have expected to win any drag race on the hole shot with mine, it does trim out nicely at wot so this does not suprise me at all. I could use that throttle control system.
