No its not what you think! Jeesh guys!

What are some boat related "incidents" that maybe you really don't want to tell anyone but maybe willing to share now!

Like how many times have you launched without a the plug?

I had one early in my boating career. We had several guest come to boat with us. I'm trying to do everything getting the boat ready, making sure the guest know what to do, etc. So I forget to put the plug in. I back off the trailer and notice aft is deep in the water. My only choice was to run the boat aground. Fortunately it was a muddy shoreline so no risk of damage to the hull. Got out and put the plug in from the water and went on to enjoy the rest of the day.

been there done that a time or two with one or another fishing boat. Cant say I have done with a bigger boat, YET!

I am sure there are more, but my two favorite are:

attaching the dinghy painter to the shaft (ran over it while my buddy watched, he still reminds me)

stretching the power cord. At least now I double check to make sure they are unplugged prior to starting.

I tried to pull out of the slip with a line still attached... took the other 3 lose, jumped aboard, and proceeded to take the dock with me. Fortunately a mate on the dock was able to get it lose before I did any damage. :wow:

On my previous boat was sanitizing the water tank with bleach. Filled it until water came out the fill hole. Turned on the water pump and nothing came out of the faucets. Called the Service Mgr over to figure out what was wrong and he noticed immediately that the holding tank pump out was open and I had just sanitized the holding tank! Doh!!

LOL you can bet this is one thread cptsundancer wont touch, and if he did he would say, nope not me I do everything right. LOL

and you are going to let him get away without coming forth?

Never left the tie downs on but I have forgotten those plastic outdrive supports that take the pressure off the hydraulics when trailering.

I am actually going to. You pick and chose your battles. I got bigger fish to fry.

The Admiral and her girl friend tried out a new wax on the bow without telling me while we were out swimming off the hook. (Friend is a canbot owner)
I pulled into the dock, jumped on the bow and skated to the hand rail. Flipped off the bow onto the skid resistant dock and left both knee cap and elbow skin there. :smt089

Admiral said I should be more careful in the future.:smt014

Well let's just say I thought about naming my boat "DOCK RAMMER".

Want some good laughs, we've had similar discussions before. Do a search for "embarrassing" or "embarasing" or "chuckle"

without the quotes. and get ready for some laughs, (a couple even at my expense).

also go to youtube, and do a search for bill dance fishing bloopers, there's about a dozen or so great, laugh till you're crying bloopers there.

I was going out on the lake with my friend on his 340DA which he is VERY particular about. Nothing different than the other 100 times I have done this. Un-tying all the lines and getting the boat ready to go. He always asks me if we are clear before he engages the transmissions and trusts that if I say "go" we are untied and clear. Well, I neglected to double check this one time and told him go. As soon as I saw him shift in to gear my eye caught one line line attached. Everything turned to slow motion. As I yelled, "woah!", I saw the line stretch way farther than I thought it ever would without snapping before he went to N. No damage done though. Of course the dock was loaded with people too.

He was not a happy camper. I simply told him- I am sorry, that will never happen again- and now I triple check.

And that is why I always try to do my own walk around!

I certainly understand what you are saying. I do think though there comes a point when you need to be able to reply on your "crew" to take care of certain things and pick people you can trust. He trusted me and I let him down that time even though we had gone out easily dozens of times before with no problem at all. I could have made the same mistake on my own boat just as easily which many others have no doubt done. The outcome in this situation was an increased awareness of "line status" before leaving the dock for both of us. I think it helped way more than it hurt in this case.

I had a brass chain connected to the drain plug on my duck boat. Someone cut the chain and took the drain plug. Noticed something wrong when the bildge pump began to rum. Made it back to shore and installed my spare drain plug. Still had a good day of hunting.
