Am I the only one that gets pissed off when they see signs or commercials to "donate your boat"? Now people who cannot afford food can afford the gas for a boat? I mean sheesh, I dont really find that being very responsible, id rather donate food... dont you think that would go farther? What gives...

I think the deal is you give the boat to them. They sell it and give the cash to whatever "Charity" they want. You get the write off of the value. However I never saw a charity boat sales. Where do they go. Or do they never find suckers to actually donate.

is it like a "donate your car to the blind" type of thing? I'd rather do that than scrap out a car completely. Please don't be ignorant enough to think that someone wants you to donate a boat that people can't afford to use. That's not the idea of donating something to charity. They benefit from selling your donated boat to put that money towards food, shelter, health care ect....

My old roommate had a friend who owned a few used car lots, he had a deal with one of the organizations you could donate your car to for charity.

He would send a flat bed to pick up the car and basically send what ever he wanted to the organization, then he would turn around and put the car on one of his used car lots for a lot more money, this guy was a real dirt bag.

Every time I hear one of those ads to donate your car to charity I think of this and how this Dbag gets most of the money.:smt013

I can't remember which charity it was, but a couple years ago they were running adds in boating mags asking for you to donate your old boat. Sounded good until you found out that it was one of the tree hugger organization that was fighting against boaters.
